Types of Therapy
Individual Therapy – We offer individual counseling for children, adolescents, and adults. Many adults choose this form of therapy as a way to work through individual problems, gain coping skills, and to have the experience of working one on one with a therapist.
Our work with adolescents centers around providing a confidential and understanding environment in which personal issues can be explored. Often, teens like to focus on issues related to family relationships, dating, decision making, and understanding the changes they are experiencing as they prepare to enter adulthood. This can be a confusing time as it is full of important decisions, and therefore we offer therapeutic experience that includes support and healthy guidance.
Our individual work with children utilizes art therapy and play therapy. These approaches to therapy are ways to work with children who don’t yet have the language skills to express their thoughts and emotions verbally. Through these modalities, children learn how to communicate and cope with the world, using age appropriate means.
Couples therapy is another form of therapy that focuses on relational or marital issues. Some couples choose this form of therapy explore various premarital concerns. For others, couples counseling offers a safe environment for married or dating couples to work out problems, find healthy ways to communicate, and create a stronger bond. The work may extend beyond just the couple and have a positive impact on their family, as well.
Family therapy provides the means to bring a family together to discuss issues and relational problems. At times, this experience is the sole opportunity to have the entire family together, discussing personal matters in a safe environment. Families are then able to carry over the work done in the office, into the home.
Group Therapy?Group therapy is an effective way to deepen your understanding of yourself and your relationships. It is a unique experience of joining together with others who share common goals, fears, and frustrations. Group therapy offers you the opportunity to develop the strength to identify your needs, assert yourself, handle conflicts, and receive support. In a safe environment you can identify your stressors and how you have handled them in the past. Then you will be able to practice new skills, which can be applied to your personal life. Throughout the process, you will be challenged to grow while finding hope and validation from the group.

Choosing A Therapist

Our therapists are highly qualified, licensed psychologists and marriage and family therapists, who have a number of different specialties. We also offer sliding scale services through our well-trained and competent psychological assistants and MFT interns. In determining the best fit, we try and match the needs of the client with an appropriate therapist. Our therapists do have individual styles and we encourage you to seek out a comfortable therapeutic match, which is essential to the work.

Orientations

Within psychology, there are a variety of different orientations practiced; this means the approach a therapist has to counseling. Some differing focuses are on: thoughts & behaviors, feelings, coping mechanisms, relational issues with family members or a partner, past experiences and how they affect you today, creating meaning in life, and many others. Additionally, therapists bring their own personal style to the work. This adds variation to the counseling experience, meaning not all psychologists are the same. We therefore emphasize the fact that not every counselor is for every person. It is important to consider what your needs are and sometimes “shop around” to find the right match. This means ensuring the therapist you work with is right for you, as we know just how important this relationship is for your personal process and growth. Following your first meeting, you should feel that you were listened to and respected, that the therapist is compassionate, and most of all that there is a connection. While the process of therapy is not always easy and can be challenging emotionally, you should feel comfortable with your therapist and, overall, be looking forward to continuing to work with this person. Trust your instinct! We want to make certain that your therapeutic experience is satisfying. We have many competent therapists at our site, willing to make sure you find a good match. Please contact us so that we can help you make your psychotherapeutic experience one that fits for you and your family.
